FRUSTRATION OR DESPERATION?

I am the type of guy who works into details when something boggles my mind. Anyway, please do not consider me as a fitness guru or someone trying to sell you something because I am not. I will continue to write blogs as long as something captures my interest. I can't stand BS, it's probably what inspired me to start writing blogs.

Today, I want to discuss fitness hype particularly about our favorite fitness magazines. I will not mention any names so be the judge. Most fitness magazines hires models who were in great shape - rippling abs, huuuge bicepz, giant forearms, striated legs, etc. I think the publishers are doing a great job marketing their products. How? Because they successfully get to sell their product to their target consumers. Who do you think is the primary target consumers/ readers of these magazines? You! Yes, you. You're an average guy/ woman looking for a weight loss(which is actually a fat loss or body recompostion), although if you're an overweight/ obese/ skinny fat or what have you will really need a "weight loss" to achieve your ideal physique, you need some guarantee that the weight you will lose will come off from the right places --- body fat.

I will not discuss how to effectively reduce body fat while preserving lean muscle mass today so I will save that for future blog. I want to concentrate on the magazines that keep on BSing the general population. While, I find some of the magazine articles interesting other than fitness/ workouts, etc, I consider those as "fillers." Articles that some of us may find interesting, but rather was just there to keep the magazines look bulkier/ thicker thus the readers won't get the feeling that they paid such a high price for a "fitness magazine" that actually included just a few pages of repetitive workout/ nutrition tips.

What do you think the reason is if why do we keep on buying these magazines? Because you're obviously looking for something. IMO, I think you're dreaming that someday, you will look like the magazine cover models if you continuously subscribe to them hoping to find the "secret."
Okay, the magazine itself, the tips including the cover models may be enough reason for some to buy the magazine itself hence it could be a great motivation for some, the sad truth is that most of these cover models are genetic freaks or people who has put in several years of training experience or both to get the results most people are looking for. That could mean being lean and toned, seeing the abs, getting bigger muscles, etc. I can't stand the fact that these type of marketing strategies are blindy misleading people that an average guy could get similar results training 15 minutes a day, 30 minutes doing some body weight training alone. I have nothing against body weight training and such, it is just not enough stimulus to support muscle growth that we really desire. Body weight exercises, circuit training type of work has it's place on fitness, it's just not the "magical solution" that will turn you into a fat burning machine that your favorite magazine want you to believe.

The bottom line is that there is no secret! There is no magic foods that will make you burn fat, can give you big muscles overnight, it will just never happen. There are even no forbidden foods that you need to avoid if the goal is fat loss or seeing the abs. I wrote this blog because I want to expose the truth, truth that your favorite magazine could be setting you into a frustrated time bomb. Sure, X got ripped doing this workout, ever wondered what his diet like? Ever considered the possibility that the dude has a better p-ratio and better genetics than yours? Or you will probably tell me that "oh yeah I got good results doing this workout blah blah," let me tell you, you probably never trained before that's why any stimulus will be likely to give you "newbie gains." There will come to a point that you will hit the wall(plateau) where progression stops. Once this happen, you need to apply new stimulus to break the adaptation period.

I hope you get the message that you might consider saving your money and time doing some research instead of reading your favorite magazine spoon feeding you with all the things you wanted to hear.
